It was great to visit with Lt Col Allen West today at the Alamo City Republican Women meeting. I had a chance to ask him his biggest surprise in Texas politics since moving here a few years ago. His answer?
How “we have allowed a philosophy of government to come into Texas that is the antithesis of what Texas stands for… What has happened in the Texas State House has been a surprise to me. Where a lot of the legislation that got passed in the Texas Senate got stonewalled over in the House, when you have pretty much super majorities on either side. When I see Republicans in the Texas House building coalitions with people that don’t believe as they should, that’s a dangerous thing, I think, and that’s why you see some problems here over the past 4-6 years, definitely as long as I’ve been here.”
